Warning: I’m going to be the chick of all the chicks below. If you can’t deal, don’t read on.
So this weekend, I had one of those painfully uncomfortable, almost cinematic moments of confrontation with someone I was not prepared to see. Without disclosing too many details about the encounter, it left me feeling incredibly defeated then sad then lukewarm annoyed and now I’m just ligas (like I give a shit).
If you know me, you know how much I dig GIRLS so far. This is the end of the episode where Hannah finds out she has HPV and the current guy she’s sleeping with is being a real bag of d*s; then she confronts her ex-boyfriend about possibly contracting it from him who reveals he’s gay. Obviously, she feels totally stupid and shat on. But she goes home and plays Robyn and updates her Twitter and her bestie/roommate returns and they have an impromptu dance party in her bedroom. It’s kind of perfect.
Anyway, this scene immediately came to mind after my own happening. I find it particularly comforting for its relatable, meta, cultural/generational reflexivity. Now all I want to do this summer is fucking dance with my friends all night long.
